How I built my website in 30 hours…

Have you ever woken up and had a light bulb moment? That was me, right before I built my website. Like any other day, I was on a call with my best friend, who is also an amazing strategy consultant for a Fortune 500 company. Our gossip quickly turned into a conversation about strategy. We concluded that building a website for a startup was a mandatory step to building their brand. And then, boom! I realized I wanted to build my own brand too, so you could really get to know the kind of person I am outside of being tall, dark, and handsome.

So, I did what any sane person would do and reached out to my friends who knew some designers and developers. But when they told me it would take 4-6 weeks to design and cost a small fortune, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Now, let me tell you, I had never coded before. I was like a fish out of water. But after a few hours of creating Instagram reels and coming back from the gym, I found myself Googling how to build a website again.

Anyways, a few youtube tutorials later, I found myself buying a domain name (for those who don't know what that means, I was in the same boat as you; it's basically a thing that comes between www. and .com; mine being my full name).

Once I bought my domain name, the next step was to actually build a website that I could link to the domain name so that people could visit my page. After researching some different website designing platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, and Wix (who doesn't know Wix after seeing their ads a gazillion times), I took the initiative to create my own personal website.

The first step of the journey was to get inspiration. How did I want my website to look? What vibes did I want it to give off? Being a complete newbie in both creating and designing a website, I did what I did best: watched some funny YouTube videos to destress. And, boom! light bulb moment again. I thought to myself, let me check out the websites of the top 100 luxury brands to get inspiration since I wanted to showcase my personal taste, values, and the core concept of luxury. After sitting down and checking out their websites for an hour or two, I noted down all the things I wanted on my website, like the color scheme and font.

Step 2 was honestly just sitting down and making it. The first two hours were frustrating; trying to learn a new skill was obnoxious but quite exciting at the same time. Once the two hours passed, I started to find my honeymoon phase with Squarespace (the website-building platform).

Initially, I was planning to complete my website in 2-3 weeks at the earliest. However, after grinding it out for 15 hours straight for two days, I was quite shocked to see it turn out exactly how I had imagined it to. I remember it vividly: Sunday was when I had published the website, and three days prior on a Thursday night was when I had the light bulb moment with my buddy.

The moral of the story is that anyone can design and create their own website with determination and the right tools. However, be warned: late nights of hard work may take a toll on your appearance, as evidenced by my own dark circles…
