Tech sales: Interview process
Your resume got selected. Congrats! The process might take anywhere from 1.5 - 3 weeks. Here’s what to expect for the interview process…
Phone Screen: This initial step involves a brief conversation with a recruiter. Some questions that the interviewer would ask along with the recruiter explaining the role.
Personality Test like DISC: Some companies may require you to take a personality test like DISC to assess your behavioral tendencies.
Interview with Managers: This session includes interviews with different managers to assess your fit for the role. Be prepared for questions like:
Tell me about yourself
What does a SDR/ BDR do?
Why sales?
Why tech sales?
Why this company?
Strengths & Weaknesses.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years/career goals?
How do you handle rejection?
Tell me about a time you failed and how you overcame it (use STAR method).
How would your friends describe you? What's one thing you can improve?
As long as you are prepped with answers to these questions, you should be ready for any interview. Remember to also prepare questions to ask the interviewer, such as:
What’s your story? Why did you get into sales? Why tech sales? Why this company?
What will my quota look like? How many meetings should I book per week/month?
What does the training program entail?
What are the opportunities for career growth and promotions?
Can you tell me about the company culture?
Can you provide an example of someone in the team who has been successful?
Roleplay: This is a 5 to 10-minute exercise where you'll conduct a full sales call to book a meeting. While there won’t be many objections, it's crucial to be prepared. The goal is to showcase your clarity, conciseness, and tone during the call. I'll provide an example of a sales meeting call to help you prepare in a different blog post!
